Kuala Terengganu, April 6 -- Petronas today refuted the allegation that the leakage of ammonia gas in Kerteh at 8.30pm yesterday occured at one of its plants at the Petronas Petroleum Industry Complex (PPIC).

Petronas East Coast Regional Office, in a statement today, said that the relevant authorities were the midst of investigating the incident.

"It is believed that the leakage occurred at another plant, which is not associated with the national oil company.

"Petronas, however, expressed regret that the incident had caused 23 workers of Hyundai PFCE, who were carrying out maintenance works at the plants, to be rushed to seek medical attention at several medical centres in Kerteh, Dungun and here," the statement said.

Twenty-two of the workers were discharged at noon today.

The situation at all Petronas plants are currently under control.
